First, the news came out in this article in Annahar Al Maghrebia about an apparent split in the Feb20 movement in the Tangiers and Tetouan region. Then Moncef Belkhayat, Minister of Youth and Sports, confirmed that the majority of the Feb20 youth from Tangiers joined his Party, the National Rally of Independents (RNI). The reasons invoked are similar to the ones mentioned by Minister of Communication Naciri who accused the movement of being co-opted by Islamists and leftists. However, the names of the Feb20 members who supposedly joined the RNI were never revealed, and the Feb20 in Tangiers has already issued a statement denying the story, and vowed to hold further protests in Tangiers this Sunday.
