Thank you, thank you, thank you for publishing the Op-ed Hail the Democratic King. What warm show of support towards the historic accomplishment of my country! Thank you for insisting that we are an exception where almost 100% of us agree to vote Yes on a gifted Constitution. I bet that makes your democrats bitterly jealous… How hard was it to swallow Al Gore’s defeat even when he won the popular vote! I know, I shouldn’t have reminded you… what a painful souvenir…I bet you wished you lived in Morocco, when Bush won yet again against Kerry 50.7% to 48.3% and sent your country down with the worst financial crisis of our time. Man, why does your country have such a hard time surpassing the one digit vote margin? I bet you wish you didn’t have to waste those millions in campaigns and lobbying in this kind of democracy where you have to work really hard to get popular support and votes.
See in Morocco, it’s pretty simple. Why would anyone ask for less than 100% agreement? Some say that with 43 % illiteracy and high poverty it’s easy to grease the voting machine and lure people into voting yes. Some even pretend that street children and baltajiya were paid to harass protesters…Nonsense! It’s all propaganda…
NYT, I really respect your news. But your excellent opinion choice this time surpassed my expectations. So, please let me thank you. Sorry that your country had to spend so much money counting and recounting those ballots in Florida! How insensitive of me to remind you… It’s just that in Morocco, if you don’t feel like counting the votes, why bother? You can objectively assume that at the end the result will be around 98% so just pick a number between 96% and 100%, the margin of error is close to null.
It’s Morocco and we have agreed to agree. Yes, please do call it “cultural relativism” we practice democracy differently. After all we are Arabs and Muslims, what do we know about your democracy? And those guys out there still protesting? They’re just a bunch of crazy kids. You know the youth…they go through a phase, many of them get on small boats at night to illegally cross to Spain, it’s called being young. Or maybe it’s drugs?
It’s all good in our country, and please do me a last favor, stick to your story, and forget about the facts that I mentioned above about illiteracy, poverty, and street children…
By the way: We’ve also got great surf and exotic food in Morocco….want to switch places?
